Skimmer Socks: The Key to a Cleaner Pool Filter

Skimmer socks (found on Amazon, click/touch this link), otherwise known as the “pantyhose for pools," go over your pool's skimmer basket. Skimmer socks are trending for homeowners who take care of their own pools because they work great, aiding in keeping the pool filter cleaner so you don't have to take it apart as often to clean it, which can be a hassle. Essentially, what a skimmer sock does is it catches the finer debris that your skimmer sucks into the skimmer basket, thus preventing it from ending up in your filter. With a clogged, dirty filter, your filter gauge will show elevated PSI levels indicating it's time to clean your filter.

Skimmer basket socks work fantastic at catching fine debris, dog hair, oils, bugs, and pollen. They are made of a durable fine mesh material with elasticity. The skimmer socks fit most standard skimmer baskets. Keep in mind that these skimmer socks are to only be used on your pool's skimmer located inside your pool deck. Do not use these skimmer socks inside your pump's skimmer basket. Using them incorrectly could cause them to get stuck in your pool equipment pipes and filtration system, causing damage.

It is recommended to change your pool skimmer sock every 2-8 weeks or if you see it has collected enough debris and shows signs of wear and usage. To clean the Skimmer Sock properly in between changing them out, simply pop it off your skimmer basket and rinse it with a garden hose to clean all the fine debris off of it before putting it back on your skimmer basket.
